The Council of Tenerife has launched its Electronic Services project making it possible to electronically submit and process to completion a range of administrative procedures, such as applying for and obtaining vehicle permits.
Vehicular traffic is generally prohibited and limited to easements, forest management and protection, and fire fighting. The Mountains Law drafted by the Council of Tenerife does however make the following allowances:
- Walkers, cyclists and horse riders may use all forest tracks.
- Access to recreational and camping areas and camps is permissible by any vehicle suitable for road use (cars, vans, busses, motorcycles, amongst others).
- For leisure and recreational activities with motor vehicles forest tracks, the Council has designed a Network of tracks for vehicular traffic for recreational purposes.

Without a permit.-
- Four-wheel drives.- cars and vans with four-wheel traction weighing less than 3.5 metric tonnes.
- Sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
- Trail bikes.

With a permit (maximum of 150 vehicles per day).-
- Motorbikes fitted with trail, enduro or motocross tyres.
- Quads and ATV quads with handlebar steering.
- Four-wheel drive vehicles with tyres with a tread depth of between 10 and 15 millimetres.
- Prohibited vehicles.- Vehicles fitted with studded tyres with tread depths equal to or higher than 15 millimetres or tyres measuring over 34 inches in diameter.
The tracks in the Anaga and Teno Rural Parks are classified as rural paths, and are therefore not subject to this regulation.
You can view a map of all the tracks on the island by downloading Google Earth. You can locate each track and obtain further information of interest.
We also offer you the possibility of downloading the map as a GPX file for your GPS device so you can view it at any time, anywhere.
In rain or strong wind it is not uncommon to encounter landslides and fallen trees. It is therefore advisable to check weather conditions before setting out on forest tracks.
