La Matanza de Acentejo takes its name, the slaughter of Acentejo, from one of Tenerife's important historical events: the final clash between the native people of Tenerife and the Castilians. Located halfway between La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz, there are many good reasons why visitors keep returning to this municipality, such as the variety of good quality rural accommodation, the spectacular scenery making it an ideal place for hiking, the wide range of basic services and infrastructure, the climate and, of course, the friendly nature of the local people.
