In celebration of the 240th anniversary of its founding (1777-2017), the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Island of Tenerife will present the First Seminars on the History of the Canary Islands starting on 6 November. There will also be an exhibition titled “The Nava y Grimón Family: From Their Beginnings to Today” starting on Thursday 9.

According to secondary school geography and history teacher Ana María García Pérez, the curator of “The Nava y Grimón Family: From Their Beginnings to Today” exhibition, it is an unprecedented display of the legacy of this family and their connection to some of the key events in the history of the Canary Islands. These include the creation of an enlightenment-era tertulia, or informal social gathering, in the family home (Nava Palace) and the foundation of this Royal Society.
