Dance
Artist, dancer and choreographer Masu Fajardo leads the “Acts in Movement” workshop at the TEA Tenerife Arts Space
Day: 04-Dec-2017 to 26-Jan-2018
Place:TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes
Time: Consultar Web TEA
The TEA Tenerife Arts Space, the Cabildo’s contemporary arts centre, will host a workshop by artist, dancer and choreographer Masu Fajardo. “Acts in Movement” is the title of the activity being done as part of the LABac-Action Laboratory taking place between 4 December and 26 January. This time, Masu Fajardo is proposing a project of intersections where artists Adán Hernández, Gabriela Alonso, Dani Curbelo and Víctor Carballeira will work with the prompts and notes of others, fostering a transfer of information between bodies and allowing, in this game of exchanges, the appearance of an unexpected body.
To do this, the artist has called for prompts from artists of movement (prompts, notes, drawings, sketches...). The prompts will not only be used with other artists as part of the TEA project with the other artists, but a selection of them will also be used as part of a fanzine that will come out at the end of the process in January. Those interested in sending their work can do so by e-mail to
“Acts in Movement” is a project structured in different phases: The first work period will take place from 4 to 22 December and the results can be witnessed at a free staging happening on 22 December at 20:00 at the TEA’s Espacio Puente. The second work period will take place from 8 to 26 January 2018 and the presentation of the fanzine and the performance will be on 26 January at 20:00, also in the Espacio Puente.
The aim of the project is to search for a common place through different bodies. Participants will work based on what is not normally seen, like poorly written prompts, sketches of choreographic ideas that were never done or themes that were never used. “Acts in Movement”, Fajardo explains, “is not interested in lofty objectives but rather uncertainty as the foundation for the construction of a common place.” The workshop will stress the impulse of daring not to know exactly where we’re going but how we’re going.
Masu Fajardo (Tenerife 1978) studied classical and contemporary dance in the Canary Islands and spent four years studying Art History at the Faculty in La Laguna. She then left for Barcelona and Amsterdam (2001-2002) with a grant from the Island Cabildo to further her Dance training. She combines her work as a choreographer with Master’s studies in Cultural Management at the Alcalá de Henares University. She has studied contemporary and classical dance but particularly with choreographers that lie on the borderlines where dance, although the foundation of the processes, does not appear in its most technical form.
As an artist, Masu Fajardo has collaborated on different experimental choreographic projects and collective investigations like Espaciales II, Espaciales III and El Salón Dorado by Carmelo Salazar, presented in mythical spaces of Barcelona like Sala Metronom, El Mercat de les Flors and La Porta, among others. Throughout her career she has worked alongside other choreographers like Oscar Dasí, Bea Fernández, Carme Torrent and Carmelo Fernández. She has worked with the multimedia art company Konic Thtr with whom she was on tour in Mexico and France and presented in cities like New York and Moscow, activating technological devices. The company has been a pioneer on the scene and as artists they have been present in Catalan structures like Nau Estruch, Hangar, La Porta and La Poderosa, among others of which they have formed an integral part.
As an independent artist, Fajardo began very young in Tenerife with the Nómada Company but has been developing her own line of work, starting with Coming Through, a play presented at Sala Becket in Barcelona. Since 2008, Masu Fajardo has been exploring the body as an object-subject of representation, especially with Microficciones y Como Desaparecer en Escena (Flash Fiction and How to Disappear in Scene), Espacio Triple Sonoro Para una Sustancia Inconcreta (Triple Sound Space for an Unspecific Physical Substance), Simulación de Vacío (Empty Simulation), Las Reglas del Juego (The Rules of the Game), WOU (With Out You), Sujeto Visible y Sujeto Invisible (Visible Subject and Invisible Subject), La Transmisión (The Transmission), La Transmisión 1.1 (The Transmission 1.1), No-thing, Equilibrios (Equilibriums) and other choreographies (collective video), among other choreographic research projects. As a cultural mediator she has been developing the Events on Body and Performativity since 2012. She recently launched a project of space for creation and a project with the Espacioenblanco body.
