Tenerife Network of Public Libraries

The Council of Tenerife has worked together with the island's 31 municipalities on the Insular Libraries Plan to launch the Insular Libraries Model for the Island of Tenerife. The Insular Libraries Model serves a way to plan and regulate the system of public libraries in Tenerife. Special attention has been paid to three areas:

  • The network.
  • The library.
  • Management.

The aim of the progressive implementation of the Insular Network of Public Libraries in Tenerife is to promote reading amongst residents by transforming libraries into cultural hubs. The Council of Tenerife's public library model introduces a new meaning to the words service and the role of libraries in society. In sum, with this model libraries can be described as being:

  • An area's most important public centre for accessing information.
  • A first-class cultural centre.
  • A place where residents can access information using new technologies, thereby fostering social equality.
  • A place to communicate with others and exchange ideas.
