In the year 2001 begin to work the Insular Institute of Social Attention and Social Health (IASS). The purpose is to give support by the Cabildo de Tenerife to the social communities that need it most. The Cabildo de Tenerife will lead and to coordinate the management of the activity directed to those social communities: adults, homeless minors , women victim of of gender violence , and disabled people, among others.
This young Organism is born from the acquired commitment with citizens, entities and institutions that dedicate their effort to this sector. Currently this organism has more than a thousand three hundred workers, financed with a budget that overcome the 100 million euros in the year 2007 and manage total of 3.500 job positions distributed in a net of centers, homes, guided floors, residences and social health hospitals in those that it is impossible to pay the deserved attention to these users. At the same time, manage more than a hundred of specific performance projects. Therefore, it’s conceived as an effective instrument to face the demands that show up in our Island in the environment of the social services and social health centers.
The kick-off supposed a great challenge for the Insular Corporation. The objective is to give those specialized services of it’s competence. Due to the complexity of those services is necesary that specialized centers provide them. Capacity, temporary or permanent residence, is another important issue. Also, the Insular Corportation is in charge and manages it’s own comercial establishments or Autonomous Community of Canaries delegated establishments thanks to the Ordinance 160/97, of the 11th of July. Plus, the managing of the integrated centers in the Autonomous Organism of Hospitals of Cabildo Insular of Tenerife (HECIT) Cabildo, as well as benefit of any other service or specialized program that the Corporation or the own Institute consider necessary, in the environment of their competences.
In definitive, this Autonomous Organism is born with the vocation of providing to the citizen a service in the social health environment characterized for it’s excellence. Therefore, the exposed reasons justify that the organism has in charge this kind of important issues as the construction and management of numerous centers and services by means of the execution of programs or agreements, the application of the Insular Plan of Social Health Services, authentic reference that you will mark the one heading for continuing during next eight years.
IASS has an Intervention, Secretary and delegated Treasury, that allows to give a quick and effective answer to the procedure of the files, some Central Services, integrated for the Economic Financial departments, Administrative Management, of Personal and Human resources, as well as others of support departments: Planning, Evaluation and Systems of Information; External Relationships and Communications. All they have as main objective to provide support to the different Units so that they can carry out with effectiveness their objectives.
