Located in the north of Tenerife, El Tanque is situated in the higher areas of the old district of Daute, at between 400 and 1354 metres above sea level. It stretches from the steep La Atalaya rock to the pine forests on the peaks of the Abeque mountain. The municipality is made up entirely of high areas and mountain peaks and, although it does not have a coast of its own, it does offer visitors some of the best views of the island's stunning northern coastline. It is also home to the Corona Forestal Nature Park, the Teno Rural Park, the Chinyero Special Nature Reserve, the Cliffs of Culata Protected Landscape and the Interián Site of Scientific Interest.
