What is it?

Montaña Centinela Natural Monument is situated near the coast in the municipality of Arico. Its main feature is a cone of pyroclastic rock, which is surrounded by a number of flat areas that are home to a large community of different species of spurge.

Getting there

The Montaña Centinela can be accessed from the TF-1 via the exit for El Porís-Villa de Arico. The exit takes you on to the TF-627 in the direction of Villa de Arico. When you reach kilometre 3+200 you are at the northernmost point of the Natural Monument, from where there are a number of routes leading into the protected areas.

The Montaña Centinela was declared a Natural Monument and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
