What is it?
Montaña de Tejina Natural Monument comprises an ancient lava dome (an almost perfectly circular mound created by the slow extrusion of viscous lava from a volcano) of striking appearance and singularly large dimensions. It is well-preserved and surrounded by deep ravines. The area contains a number of enclaves with a variety of well-preserved habitats and the flanks of the mountain are home to certain endangered plants, such as Atalanthus microcarpus, and other rare plants such as the Convolvulus fruticulosus species of bindweed.
Getting there
Montaña de Tejina can be accessed from the TF-82, which links Adeje with Guía de Isora. Follow the TF-82 to the centre of Tejina and then take the road leading to the TF-465. From the TF-465 a number of tracks lead off that will take you to the protected areas.
The Natural Monument can also be accessed from the TF-82 by continuing on through the centre of Tejina, turning off after 1 kilometre and following the road up to Acojeja. The first section of this road is asphalted, later becoming a dirt track that takes you into the northern part of the protected areas.

Governing legislation
Montaña de Tejina was declared a Natural Monument and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
