What is it?
Barranco de Ruiz Site of Scientific Interest is a medium-sized strip of land located beneath the La Rambla or Ruiz ravine, which is notable for its slopes that are over 30% steeper than average. As a result it is characterised by remnants of laurel forests, communities of rock-growing plants and well-preserved thermophilous woodland
Getting there
Barranco de Ruiz Site of Scientific Interest can be accessed from the TF-5 at kilometre 44+600, shortly before reaching the town of Las Aguas in San Juan de La Rambla: at this spot you will find the Barranco de Ruiz recreational area. Directly in front of the recreational area, in the direction of Santa Cruz-Garachico, there is an exit on the right-hand side which will enable you to turn around and drive into the recreational area itself, where you can park your vehicle and continue on foot to the Site of Scientific Interest.

Governing legislation
Barranco de Ruiz was declared a Site of Scientific Interest and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
