What is it?

Anaga Country Park is a mountainous massif situated in the far northeast of the island. It is an area of significant value, not only for its landscape but also in natural and cultural terms, given the biodiversity of the habitats it houses, the many endangered and protected species that live in its relict forests and the fascinating geomorphological forms that are found there. Moreover, the park is also home to a number of rural settlements whose agricultural activities have bestowed an extraordinary beauty and harmony upon the landscape.

The areas of environmental sensitivity within Anaga Country Park include the zones of exclusion and restricted use and some areas of general use; the woodlands set aside for public use; the upper sections of the ravines above Iguesta and San Andrés; the watershed between the ravines of the Brosque valley and Cercado, including Chigel Rock; and the watershed between the valleys of Taganana and Almáciga, including the rocks of Amogoje and Valle.

Getting there

Anaga Country Park can be accessed from a number of points. From La Laguna, take the TF-113 to Las Mercedes; change over to the TF-12 and continue to La Cruz del Carmen (where you will also find the Visitors' Centre for the park).  From here, there are a number of roads that lead to the hamlets of El Batán, Las Carboneras, Chinamada, Taborno, Roque Negro and Afur; alternatively, continue along the TF-12 to El Bailadero.

Departing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and travelling along the TF-11 towards San Andrés you will observe a number of different ravines and settlements, from which various roads and paths lead into Anaga Country Park.  The first settlement you will see is Barrio de La Alegría, followed by Valle Seco and finally María Jiménez.
