Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

A student is said to suffer from attention deficit disorder with and without hyperactivity (ADHD) when their general behaviour shows signs of greater attention deficiency, hyperactivity and impulsiveness than other children. This behaviour has a negative effect on the child's schooling, family and social life.

Who is it aimed at?

The Government of the Canary Islands has implemented a program aimed especially at teachers which provides them with information on the characteristics of ADHD, how to identify and manage it in the classroom and with the family.

Attention deficit disorder with and without hyperactivity (ADHD) manifests itself in different ways

  • Type 1.- A predominance of attention deficiency, where there are symptoms of attention deficiency but no signs of hyperactivity/impulsiveness.
  • Type 2.- A predominance of hyperactivity/impulsiveness, where there are obvious symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity but no signs of attention deficiency.
  • Type 3.- A combination of the symptoms of attention deficiency and hyperactivity/impulsiveness.
