The Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Tenerife (RSEAPT) will devote the “Planet Earth 2019” cycle to the analysis of different aspects related to water on the Island in order to offer a comprehensive view of the situation and disseminate the latest technical and administrative changes in the planning and management of this resource. It will begin on Monday 28, at 19:00 hours. Admission is free.

Antonio Machado Carrillo, PhD in Biology from the University of La Laguna who has held various positions related to the planning, organisation and management of natural resources in several countries, will be in charge of opening this cycle on Monday 28. Water is the most important resource of Tenerife. Due to the volcanic characteristics of the island and its porous and permeable soils, much of the rainwater is filtered into the subsoil, where the ingenuity and effort of the islanders have managed to access to capture these underground flows. Dikes and dams are also an important element, although less common than wells and galleries, when it comes to obtaining fresh water in a territory surrounded by the sea. Some of the alternative formulas include seawater desalination and wastewater treatment for use in irrigated lands.
