The Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) hosts on Friday 29, at 19:00 hours, the screening and free presentation of the documentary "The southwest of Tenerife", which highlights the need to conserve the natural resources of this area of the island, which are in a situation of excessive tourist exploitation. Admission free.

The ecosystems addressed in the documentary are the following:

  • Intertidal: diurnal and nocturnal images of the inhabitants of this tidal-dominated ecosystem, as well as aerial images of the area.
  • Coastal: this part focuses on the best known diving sites in the area, visited each year by tens of thousands of tourists.
  • Pelagic: images of the resident population of pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), a unique event in the world.
In addition, this 45-minute documentary features underwater and aerial images of tropical fin whales (Balaenoptera brydei), spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), humpback whales (Megaptera novaengliae) and bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), among others. It also shows interviews with biologists, lawyers, cameramen, photographers and businessmen of the area, who speak about the importance of placing natural resources as a priority over tourist exploitation and thus ensure their conservation.
