The Cristino de Vera Foundation—CajaCanarias Cultural Space and the Embassy of New Zealand in Spain culminate their "New Zealand Film Series" on Tuesday 8, at 20:00 hours, with the screening of "Whale rider", directed by Niki Caro in 2002. The film will be shown in its original version, subtitled in Spanish. Admission is free and seating is limited.

Based on the novel of the same name by Witi Ihimaera, the film focuses the story in a small village on the coast of New Zealand where the aborigines of the Whangara tribe believe they come from a single ancestor, whose existence goes back a thousand years. His name is Paikea and he escaped death after overturning his canoe riding on the back of a whale. According to tradition, the head of the Whangara, the "Whale Rider", the Paikea, has to be a first-born male. But Pai, an 11-year-old girl, believes she is destined to be the highest authority of the tribe. Therefore, although she adores her grandfather Koro, she will confront him and a thousand years of tradition.
