Renewable energies and the need for cooperation in building a more sustainable world are the main demands of the twenty-first edition of the Canary Islands International Environmental Film Festival (Ficmec), which takes place from Saturday 25th May to Sunday 2nd June in the old convent of San Francisco de Garachico. You can see the activities and scheduled screenings in the link to the programme.

Between 45 and 50 films will be screened and approximately 18 feature films and 15 short films will compete in the official selection. The cinema competition, managed by David Baute, will present categories for feature-length documentaries, feature-length fiction and animation, short documentaries and short fiction and animation. This year, the festival has given awards to Ecuadorian Amazonian indigenous activist Patricia Gualinga, for her career, photographer Isabel Díez, journalist Eva González, entrepreneur and designer Elizabeth Monoian and the "For a New Energy Model for the Canary Islands” platform. The festival’s programme will be additionally accompanied by a variety of parallel cultural events, with music, dance and exhibitions related to the environment and renewable energies.
