The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST) will convene at the Tenerife Auditorium on Friday 24, at 19:30, a new event featuring Robert Kurka's "Concert for Marimba and Orchestra". A work that the ensemble will perform for the first time and which will feature as a soloist the American marimba player Leigh Howard Stevens. Tickets are on sale for €34.
- "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" by Claude Debussy is inspired by Mallarmé's homonymous poem, and more than a faithful transliteration into musical language, it is the evocation of two situations that frame the eclogue: the moment between wakefulness and dreaming; and the unfortunate attempts of the faun trying to seduce the nymphs of the forest.
- The "Concert for Marimba and Orchestra, op. 34" by Robert Kurka, was born at the behest of the American performer Vida Chenoweth, who wanted to situate the marimba as a concert instrument in a relevant place. The beginning has a strong jazz inspiration, and in some moments the symphonic ensemble will will remind us of a big band.
- The programme closes with Béla Bártok's "Concert for orchestra, Sz 116/BB 123" which is an interpretation by the Hungarian master of the ensemble as a sum of soloists; something like a modern reading of the baroque "concerto grosso" which consisted in the treatment of the orchestra by differentiated groups.
