When her marriage fails, Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron) returns to her hometown in northern Minnesota in search of a good job. A single mother with two children, she looks for work in the region’s main industry; the iron mines. Encouraged by her old friend Glory (Oscar-winning Frances McDormand), one of the few female miners in the village, Josey joins those working to mine ore from the quarry. She is prepared for the hard and dangerous work, but not for the harassment that she and the other female miners suffer, which is an even harder challenge.
