The Museum of Nature presents the world’s largest exhibition of mummies and funerary items

The Museum of Nature and Mankind will host the exhibition “Athanatos. Immortal. Death and Immortality in Past Populations” from 20 December to 4 June from 9:00 to 21:00. It will offer a look at the funeral rites of the Guanches as well as other cultures and will include an extraordinary World Congress on Mummy Studies to be held in May.
The exhibition “Athanatos. Immortal. Death and Immortality in Past Populations” analyses the biological process of death and introduces the public to the different kinds of phenomena and treatments that favour the conservation of the cadaver. At the same time, it explores the work of multidisciplinary teams of scientists attempting to reconstruct the lives of past communities from a historical perspective. It also features pieces from international institutions that encompass practically all the funeral rites present throughout the history of the planet and their approach to the world of death.
