The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST) opens itself to musical memories with the world premiere of "Cinco canciones" by Las Palmas composer Luis Cobiella. It will feature the participation of soprano Candelaria González. The programme, which will close with Mahler's "Symphony No. 4 in G Major" will be conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez on Friday 8 at 19:30 at the Tenerife Auditorium. Tickets are on sale for €33.

"Las Cinco canciones" were conceived of by Luis Cobiella (1925-2013) at various times in his life and by following different motivations and thus do not follow a common thread. They were also not written for the symphony orchestra, hence the need for their adaptation by Armando Alfonso, who was lead conductor of the orchestra for 17 years. The "Fourth Symphony" of Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) is known for its intensity, representing the path from the earthly to the divine. It is crowned by a placid ending of a soprano voice which, at the Tenerife Auditorium, will be that of Candelaria González. It is considered among the most beautiful of the works of Mahler, who was one of the greatest exponents of post-romantic symphony.
