Cabildo de Tenerife

Centro de Interpretación "Castillo de San Cristóbal"

The Interpretation Centre is an interactive facility that helps visitors discover and contextualize the remains of the walls of Castillo de San Cristóbal. The Centre is located underneath Plaza de España in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife.

The Centre also helps visitors understand more about the island’s history and defence system. It is managed by the Council of Tenerife’s Independent Board of Museums and Centres.

The Castillo de San Cristóbal Interpretation Centre boasts an additional attraction of great interest to local and foreign visitors alike: the legendary "El Tigre" cannon. Although not historically provable, legend has it that "El Tigre" was the cannon used to fire the shot that wounded the famous English admiral Horatio Nelson, blowing off his arm. As a symbol of that moment, "El Tigre" has lived on in the memory of the people of Tenerife.

Entry is free.
