Museum of Nature and Mankind

In the 1950s the Council of Tenerife established the Museum of Natural Sciences and Tenerife Archaeological Museum, which both went on to rank among the most popular attractions for the island’s residents

The museums were combined, along with the Canary Islands Institute of Bio-Anthropology, to form the Museum of Nature and Humankind (Museo de la Naturaleza y Arqueología)This Museum enables residents and visitors from overseas alike to enjoy the discoveries, collections and knowledge accumulated through decades of scientific research and activity.

Visitor Services

  • Volunteer guides, who are also professionals in the fields of Archaeology and Natural Sciences, can be booked in advance for guided tours of the Museum.
  • Translations of each subject area into different languages (English, German and French).
  • Classrooms (two on each floor) with work activities for different ages in Spanish and English relating to the items on show in the Museum.
  • Educational workshops aimed at school groups and other visitors.
  • Photography and videoing is permitted as long as it is not for commercial purposes and flash or tripods are not used.
  • The Museum complies with the accessibility regulations concerning physically disabled visitors.

  • Library and Document Centre.
  • Multi-use rooms for conferences, talks, workshops, etc. Capacity: 45 people.
  • Café-restaurant.

Location and Transport Links

  • The Museum is located in the centre of Santa Cruz, just a few minutes on foot from Plaza de España and the Central Bus Station (Estación Central de Guaguas).
  • Holders of the TITSA Bonobús transport card are entitled to 50% off the Museum entry fee (cannot be combined with other discounts).
  • The closest underground car parks are in Plaza de España, Nuestra Señora de África market and Calle Ramón y Cajal.
  • The Fundación tram stop (Line 1) is located very close to the Museum and provides direct links with Santa Cruz and La Laguna.
