Historical Heritage assets on the Canary Islands are protected via their inclusion in one of the instruments for protection set out in Art. 15 of the Canary Islands Historical Heritage Act (LPHC).
The instruments for protection are:
- The Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC) Registry.
- Inventory of Movable Property.
- Municipal Architecture Lists
- Municipal Archaeology Charts.
- Municipal Ethnographic Charts.
- Municipal Palaeontology Charts.
No formal measures are in place to protect assets that may have heritage value but are not included in one of the aforesaid instruments. However, the law does allow precautionary measures to be adopted to prevent such assets from being damaged.
