Precautionary Protection Measures

The Island Councils are required to adopt precautionary measures, when historical heritage assets are in danger of being destroyed or damaged, even if they are have not been formally declared BICs, providing such assets have heritage value (Article 48 of the Canary Islands Historical Heritage Act, LPHC).

These precautionary measures are intended to establish a framework for temporary protection until the assets have been recognised, from a legal point of view, as an integral part of the Canary Islands Historical Heritage and are included in one of the protection instruments set out in the LPHC.
