Transportation of dangerous goods

The Government of the Canary Island's Central Office for Safety and Emergencies, via the Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security 112, makes the following recommendations regarding the transportation of dangerous goods:

Prevention is important

  • When driving near dangerous goods vehicles, increase following distances and take extreme care when overtaking.
  • Do not smoke and do not park near dangerous goods vehicles.
  • If you notice something is wrong, such as spillage or leakage, alert the driver immediately.

What to do

  • If there is an accident involving a dangerous goods vehicle, it is important to keep your distance and not to intervene.
  • Call 112 immediately.
  • Do not stop to look. Keep driving and close all car windows and air vents.
  • If there is an accident near your home, close all doors and windows and seal with adhesive tape. Move away from the front wall. Disconnect electricity and gas.
  • In case of a major accident, follow instructions issued by the authorities via the media.
