The wine-growing region of Valle de Güímar is located within the Güímar valley and covers the muncipalities of Güímar, Arafo and Candelaria. Sixty-two per cent of the grapes harvested in the hills of this region are white varieties whereas 38% are red varieties. The predominant white variety is listán blanco, although other varieties such as moscatel, gual, verdello, malvasía and sabro are also grown in the area. The most widely-grown red varieties are listán negro, followed by negramoll, whilst newer vineyards grow cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, ruby cabernet, shiraz and tempranillo.
