La Orotava Designation of Origin wines are produced from grapes grown throughout a large portion of the La Orotava region beneath the majestic Mt Teide. This area is located at 400 to 800 metres above sea level on the northern slopes of Tenerife's Cordillera Dorsal, encompassing La Orotava, Los Realejos and Puerto de la Cruz. The principal white varieties grown in this region are bastardo blanco, gual, forastera blanca (gomera), listán blanco, malvasía, marmajuelo, moscatel, Pedro Jiménez, torrontés, verdello and vijariego. Red varieties are bastardo negro, listán negro, malvasía rosada, moscatel negra, negramoll, tintilla and vijariego negra.
