You will find an extensive network of centres attached to the Insular Institute for Social and Socio-Sanitary Care (IASS) in Tenerife that provide different resources according to the person’s disability and the degree of disability.

Types of centres by group

Disability due to mental retardation

• Day service - Resources designed to improve the level of independence of people with an intellectual disability during the day by means of the provision of comprehensive support and services within their family environment.
• Occupational Centres - Guarantee occupational and social services during the day for people with an intellectual disability and of legal working age, where the disability prevents their integration into a company or a Special Employment Centre.
• Residential Service - Provide comprehensive services to people with an intellectual disability that cannot be permanently cared for in their family environment owing to adverse family circumstances.
• Functional homes - Facilities that were designed with the purpose of catering to users’ personal and social development and helping them increase their degree of autonomy and independence.

Need for a third party

• Day Service - Consists of resources that aim to improve or maintain the degree of autonomy of people who require a third party during the day by means of the provision of comprehensive services and support whilst they remain in their family environment.
• Day-stay centres or day centres - These are resources designed for the daily care of people with an intellectual disability who need a third party in order to foster normalised living conditions and a greater degree of autonomy.
• Residential care - Resources that provide comprehensive care services to people with a disability who cannot be permanently cared for in their family and community environment due to adverse family circumstances and who require third-party care.

Serious mental illness

• Day care: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre (CRPS) - Day care consists of resources that aim to improve or maintain the degree of autonomy of individuals with a serious mental illness who do not require third-party care during the day, via the provision of comprehensive socio-sanitary services and support while they remain in their family environment.
  These are categorised as:
  • CRPS Day Centres (CD)- These are resources that aim to assist people with a serious mental illness in the final phase of clinical stabilisation or who are in a stable stage of their illness. They implement structured personal and family rehabilitation programs with the purpose of promoting the highest degree of personal and social development, to facilitate maintaining these individuals within the community and to support their integration into society and the workforce.
  • CRPS Occupational Centres (CO)- These resources are distributed territorially within the community and work closely with the Day Centres. In these facilities, the attitudes and skills of people in relation to the workplace are assessed with the aim of providing them with pre-employment training.
• Residential Care - Residential care consists of resources that afford social and sanitary services and comprehensive care to people with serious mental illnesses who cannot be permanently cared for within their family and community environment due to adverse family circumstances.
• There are two types of resources:
  • Mini residencies (MR)- These are Centres designed for people with a disability resulting from serious mental illness with deteriorating personal and social autonomy, affording users with an alternative temporary or permanent community residence along with comprehensive care.
  • Sheltered Accommodation .- Accommodation and support for people with a serious mental illness who have a sufficient degree of autonomy whilst lacking adequate family support. Temporary or permanent care can be provided, depending on the requirements of each individual case, affording comprehensive care to users as well as flexible and continuous supervision.
