In case of mist or suspended dust , the Government of the Canary Island's Central Office for Safety and Emergencies, via the Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security 112, makes the following recommendations :

For your health

  • If you have a chronic respiratory condition, avoid going outdoors and close all doors and windows.
  • Ensure you have sufficient supplies of all regular medication.
  • Stay in areas where there is moisture in the air and drink plenty of liquids.
  • Avoid doing exercise until the situation improves.
  • If your health deteriorates, visit your Health Centre or call 112.

If you are driving

  • Turn on your headlights and fog lights.
  • Reduce your speed and increase following distance (beware of slippery areas where mud has spread across the road).
  • If you need to stop, do so in a safe spot where other drivers can see you.
  • In case of an accident, use your portable warning triangles to alert other drivers and call 112.
