Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of both the province and the island, and is the joint capital of the Canary Islands. The municipality borders with La Laguna and El Rosario and is a hub for major services. It houses government offices, offers many high-quality cultural activities, and is home to a traditional shopping district covering nearly the entire town centre and is also home to some of the island's most modern shopping centres. Throughout the year Santa Cruz also organises a whole host of interesting tourist events such as Carnival. It has an important network of health centres and hospitals and boasts a modern transport system. Visitors are similarly attracted to the beautiful landscapes of Anaga, the Las Teresitas beach and the César Manrique Maritime Park.
