Scientists, builders or any other group of persons interested in sustainable housing are invited to temporarily rent one of the 25 sustainable homes that have been built in the world's first sustainable residential complex. The building of the complex was commissioned by the Council of Tenerife as part of a scientific project to incorporate renewable energies into architecture. Thanks to this experiment it will be possible to establish specific design patterns for building purposes and thereby promote energy saving. The project will also help to diversify conventional energy resources and reduce the environmental impacts of construction.

The Council of Tenerife has presented the first phase of the Island's High Speed Telecommunications Ring, consisting of the installation of basic telecommunications infrastructure for broadband internet connection on the island. The project is to be completed in November this year and will bring new services and opportunities to the island's internet users.

The Council of Tenerife, via Tenerife's Institute for Renewable Energies (ITER) and the company Petratherm, is currently participating in research on underground resources. Based on the fact that Tenerife is still volcanically active and that the earth produces a substantial amount of heat, the Council of Tenerife hopes to capture this heat and produce geothermal energy with a view to attaining energy self-sufficiency for the island.
