Thursday 11 is an important day for the staging of the performing arts and music of MAPAS 2019, which will offer 17 free shows open to the public, with nine music shows and eight of performing arts in the Tenerife Auditorium, La Granja Creation Space, the Guimerá Theatre and the IES Alcalde Bernabé Rodríguez, from 4:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.. It will include artistic proposals from Argentina, Paraguay, Algeria, Tunisia, Mexico, Rwanda, Canary Islands and Venezuela.

Starting at 4:30 p.m., MAPAS 2019 takes up its show business with an intense program of artistic shows which will fill the Tenerife capital with music, theatre and dance. The first of the proposals will arrive at the Guimerá theatre from Chile, with Lafamiliateatro, and their work Painecur, which follows the line of work of this company based on the investigation and rescue of the country's memory, in this case, from a controversial event which occurred in 1960.

In music, from 5:00 p.m., the canaries Socos Dúo will occupy the Symphonic Hall of the Tenerife Auditorium with compositions inspired by the different facets of art, influenced by folklore, jazz or post-minimalism. The first of the two dance performances this Thursday will be in the Sala Castillo of the Auditorium, by the Natalia Medina Dance Company, who will present the piece Be Yours Be Mine. The dance programme will be completed with the work Serenity Suite, from the Spanish company Matxalen Bilbao, also in the Sala Castillo, at 10:15 p.m.

During all afternoon and evening, musical and performing art performances will take place in a unique opportunity to meet innovative artistic proposals which bring creators from Africa, Latin America and southern Europe to Tenerife. The theatrical shows will continue with Proyecto Perla (Mexico) and their work Cosas pequeños y extraordinarias (Small and extraordinary things), a montage designed for children which talks about exile and enforced disappearance. Also, for family audiences, Nidos, by Teloncillo Teatro (Spain), will be represented in the auditorium of the IES Mayor Bernabé Rodríguez, at 8:00 p.m.

A tour of the political life of Spain in the first third of the twentieth century is what the people attending Federico & Salvador. Las horas oscuras y doradas” (Federico & Salvador: The dark and golden hours) will discover, from 8:55 p.m. in the Guimerá theatre by the Canarian company Insularia Teatro. Interpreted by César Yanes and Leandro González, it reconstructs the friendship between Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí. Of a social character, although directed to an adult public, it will take place in the La Granja Creation Space Murs Murs, the piece of "Ishyo Arts Centre". This non-governmental organisation, founded by eight women in 2007, works for the development and promotion of culture in Rwanda.

Vaca 35 Teatro en Grupo returns to Tenerife’s public to present Lo único que necesita una gran actriz es una gran obra y las ganas de triunfar (The only thing a great actress needs is a great work and the desire to succeed). This piece will be represented in the unique space of the Tenerife Auditorium, but there will also be an opportunity to enjoy it on Friday and Saturday.

The afternoon-evening session will include musical performances from very different sources in the Tenerife Auditorium and its surroundings, such as the one offered by the Argentinean Sofía Viola, singer, composer and actress, who will present La huella en el cemento (the print on the cement). The Paraguayan harpist and composer Juanjo Corbalán will later present Py'aguapy in the Sala Sinfónica, combining elements of traditional rhythms with Latin American and jazz influences, in such a way that he incorporates the harp into a freer musical language.

At 7:15 p.m., the Chamber Hall will host the performance of Cecilia Todd, a reference of Venezuelan and Latin American popular and folk song that has a prolific career that includes the recording of a dozen of her own albums and numerous collaborations. The local group Caracoles will take the Castillo square at 8:00 p.m. After touring of Senegal thanks to MAPAS, the band was selected to represent the tri-continental spirit of the Canary Islands at the WOMEX 2018 opening concert.

Later, at 8:45 p.m., the sounds of the Tunisian Imed Alibi will fill the Symphonic Hall with his new project Frigya, Africa in Tunisian dialect, which is the culmination of several years of research and creations. The African continent will continue this Thursday at MAPAS 2019 with the performance of Mehdi Qamoum, a young Moroccan artist who has toured all over the world and who will present "MédiCament".

María Berasarte will present her new collaboration with the Portuguese trio Lisboa String Trio at the Sala Sinfónica, at 10:15 p.m. and finally, the same stage will host Souad Asla, artist, lyricist and Algerian composer resident in France who will present at MAPAS 2019 "Lemma", the story of a round trip that weaves a meeting between two cultures from his exile.
