The Museum of History and Anthropology has scheduled for Friday 12 and Saturday 13 of July, from 9:00 pm, a new edition of "Summer Nocturnes". The Atlantic Ocean has never been as sweet as that of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The commercial boats that sailed from the Canarian ports with the warehouses loaded with large blocks of sugar, drew on the salt surface white trails of sweets. From the neighbouring Madeira, came the cultivation of this new product. The islands agrarian landscape began to transform and soon the sugar cane grew green in the best lands and the sugar mills and presses began to produce a high-quality sugar. Likewise, the human landscape was enriched by the cultural contributions of those who knew the cultivation of cane and came with it. The flavours of our cuisine also received its sweet influence; the bienmesabe, the rapaduras, the cane rum, all kinds of jams and desserts ... are a heritage to be tasted at any auspicious occasion.
