What is it?

Roque de Jama Natural Monument is a geomorphological structure of remarkable topography and typifies the geography of the surrounding area. It is also an extremely beautiful and unique landscape feature  that is, moreover, of significant scientific and geological interest, owing to certain features that are related to the formation of the more ancient sections of the Adeje massif.  The area also contains extensive rock habitats, characterised by the presence of bare rocks devoid of soil.

Getting there

Roque de Jama Natural Monument can be accessed from the centre of the municipality of San Miguel via the TF-28: continue along this road until you reach kilometre 92+700 or thereabouts, at which point you will see the boundary of the protected area. If you continue along the TF-28 you will circle the southern section of the Roque de Jama.

The area can also be accessed from the centre of Arona via the road leading to Valle de San Lorenzo, from where you can join the TF-28. The Natural Monument is situated around 500 metres from the centre of Valle de San Lorenzo..

Governing legislation

Roque de Jama was declared a Natural Monument and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
