What is it

Teide Natural Monument is located in the centre of the island, in Teide National Park. It is a geological formation that lies within the Teide-Pico Viejo volcano area and is of particular scientific and cultural interest, in addition to being a unique landscape feature and home to a variety of endemic plant life.

Getting there

Teide Natural Monument can be accessed via the National Park (see the ‘Getting there’ section for Teide National Park). The volcanic cone itself can be accessed via cable car or on foot (and provided that prior authorisation has been obtained) via the Telesforo Bravo path, which is the only authorised access point

Governing legislation

Teide was declared a Natural Monument and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
