What is it?

Ijuana Nature Reserve is located within the Anaga Country Park Protected Area. It is a craggy, difficult-to-reach area that is of great environmental importance owing to the spurge and halophilous ecosystems (those with an extremely high concentration of salt), in addition to numerous very well-preserved endemic species. Moreover, it also contains geomorphological structures that typify the island’s geography, such as the Antequera Peninsula and Roque de Juan Bay, and lend the area significant value in landscape terms

Governing legislation

Ijuana was declared a Nature Reserve and area of environmental sensitivity by Autonomous Region Act 12/94, which was later integrated into the Organisation of the Canary Islands Territory Act via Legislative Decree 1/2000.
