Menopause

Menopause is the cessation of menstruation due to age. It is considered to have occurred when between 6 and 12 months have elapsed without menstruation. Menopause occurs during the climacteric, a stage of a woman's life when her organs are adapting to the lack of sexual hormones, often occurring between the ages of 45 and 55.

Menopause is a natural process that cannot be cured as it is not an illness . However, menopausal symptoms can be prevented or treated when they appear. The most common symptoms are perspiration, pins and needles, depression, irritability, insomnia, headaches and osteoporosis.

Tips on how to combat the symptoms of menopause

  • Follow a balanced diet , low in carbohydrates and fats and high in calcium and protein (milk, cheese, yogurt, meat and fish).
  • Limit your intake of coffee, alcohol and tobacco , which all intensify menopausal symptoms.
  • Do regular exercise exercise (gym, swimming, cycling, etc) in order to strengthen muscles and decrease bone calcium loss.
