Below we present you with a number of energy-saving tricks you can implement in own home so you can use less of the limited resources we should all be conserving.
Reduce your electricity bill
Changing a few simple habits can save you a considerable amount of energy. Applying the ideas below will help you reduce your energy consumption.
Use low-energy bulbs rather than incandescent bulbs because they are…
- More efficient.- they use 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs.
- Cheaper.- they last at least 6 times longer than traditional bulbs and are paid off in less than a year.
- More environmentally friendly:.- they produce much fewer harmful greenhouse gases.
Other tips for saving energy at home
- Use low-energy white goods bearing the Class A energy label.
- Make good use of sunlight where possible.
- Don't leave lights on in rooms you are not using.
- Install dimmer switches.
- Use fluorescent tubes where possible, especially in the kitchen where lights are on the longest.
- Use light colours for walls and ceilings.
Save water at home
- Turn off the tap when you are not using it: an open tap releases about 12 to 20 litres of water a minute.
- Immediately repair leaky taps and cisterns in bathrooms.
- Don't use the toilet as a waste paper basket.
- Choose a washing machine and dishwasher with water-saving options and turn them on only when full.
- Shower rather than take a bath and save around 200 litres of water.
- Fill the kitchen sink or a bowl with water to wash dishes or large amounts of fruit and vegetables, as this also saves water.
- Don't wash you car with a hose; use a sponge and a bucket or go to a car wash.
