Psychosocial rehabilitation

Psychosocial rehabilitation aims to help people suffering from disabilities resulting from severe mental disorders to adapt to social and work life in spite of their disability. The recovery process aims to resolve the problems and needs of these people, facilitating improvement in the following areas:

  • Mental functions and physical health.
  • Day-to-day functioning.
  • Interpersonal relationships and the adoption of roles.
  • Co-existence within a normalised environment.
  • Equal opportunities

Who it is aimed at

Without a clear definition of what serious mental illnesses are, it would be impossible to establish the priorities and available resources could not be assigned to those with the greatest clinical need. People in greatest need of psychosocial rehabilitation programs in your town are those whose diagnosis is normally linked to psychosis with moderate or severe limitations in terms of behaviour, identity, interpersonal relationships and their roles within their social support networks, with a history of contact with services and reiterated re-admittance, admittance over long periods of time or with a significant lack of social support.

Services offered

Tenerife possesses a number of different resources, and while each serves its own purpose, they are all fully integrated, facilitating individual recovery processes. At any given time, an individual may benefit from more than one resource or therapeutic technique during the recovery process. The number of places available varies from facility to facility and continually changes. The facilities are territorially distributed throughout the island in order to facilitate their accessibility and contact with families. The resources we offer are as follows:

  • Centres for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (CRPS)
  • Home service
  • Occupational Day Centre (CDO)
  • Alternative accommodation
  • Special Employment Centre
  • Care and Integrated Care Unit
  • Units for individualised support for employment
