Program for consumer training - adult education

The Centre for Consumer Training and Quality Promotion, of the Council of Tenerife, holds courses for adults in cooperation with Municipal Consumer Offices. These courses focus on the rights and obligations of consumers, guidelines for exercising these rights, guarantees when making purchases and contracting services, presentation, advertising and labelling, general product safety, over indebtedness and shopping addiction, food safety, amongst others.

Who are they aimed at?

  • Primary and first-cycle secondary school students.
  • Adult education centres
  • Consumer associations, housewives, etc
  • Business people and retailers
  • A minimum of 15 and maximum of 25 students per group
  • Courses can be delivered on-site at your location

Workshop content

Learn to defend yourself: exercising consumer rights and fulfilling obligations

  • Promote responsible consumption of products and services.
  • Know what your basic rights and obligations are as a consumer and how to exercise them effectively.
  • Learn how to detect consumer conflicts.
  • Be able to prevent conflicts.
  • Understand consumer arbitration systems and other conflict resolution pathways.
  • Learn how to file a complaint.

Shopping in the 21st Century, quality, safety, guarantees...

  • Understand the different product marketing methods.
  • Observe techniques and mechanisms used to entice consumers.
  • Learn about different methods of payment.
  • Reflect on habits and attitudes of rational consumption: train people to save resources and shop with confidence and guarantees
  • Discover other methods and values in product marketing.

Habits, shopping addiction and over-indebtedness: prevention mechanisms

  • Understand the different causes of shopping addiction and over-indebtedness.
  • Reflect on and discover how social and self conditioning influence consumer behaviour.
  • Provide information on understanding, preventing, diagnosing and treating diverse psychological and social problems related to shopping and spending habits.

Presentation, advertising and labelling: the goods speak.

  • Promote responsible consumption of products and services.
  • Recognise informative advertising.
  • Be aware that products speak to consumers through their labels.
  • Be capable of analysing labels on the products you buy.
  • Learn how to compare the labels of different brands of the same product.
  • Show environmental awareness and solidarity when making purchases.

Quality and food safety

  • Promote responsible food consumption.
  • Promote healthy and balanced eating habits.
  • Be aware that products speak to consumers through their labels.
  • Improve consumer food confidence.
  • Food preservation and processing.

Methodology

Courses provide basic information on each of the proposed topics and are adapted to participant knowledge and level. Learning is based on presentations and practical activities.
