Types of landscape and conservation

The landscape reflects the ecological, socio-economic and cultural heritage of a people. Its conservation is a fundamental element in terms of the well-being of the population.

Amongst other duties, the Cabildo's Insular Directorate for the Countryside and Urban Environment  is responsible for conceiving and developing a series of activities aimed at fulfilling three fundamental functions in terms of the landscape of Tenerife:

  • The protection of representative and singular elements.
  • The management of the landscape from the perspective of sustainable development, adapting economic and social activity in order to ensure respect for the environment.
  • Organisation with a view to anticipating and adapting to the transformations that may arise.
